Entrance recently completed a national SharePoint migration for a national non-profit. The client had been using SharePoint 2007, and they decided it was time to upgrade to SharePoint 2010. Across the whole process we tested the migration a number of times before actually completely it. This helped to ensure that any bugs or problems with the custom development that had been done in SharePoint 2007 were worked out before implementation took place.
We also performed a production test migration, which helped us better understand the IT infrastructure. This allowed data to be copied faster during the final migration.
Entrance used the tried and true content database attach and upgrade method to complete this project. It was not without its challenges, as the many users were spread across the US, with a frequent needed to log in and use SharePoint. We successfully navigated this challenge and migrated databases without any significant issues.
