Chesapeake Energy Besieged with Lease Compliance Issues

Oil and gas companies often struggle with the vast amounts of information inherent in day to day business. We took notice last week of an article in The Examiner reporting that in Pennsylvania, Chesapeake Energy is losing “its hold as the market leader within the state,” as it reduces drilling by more than half this […]

Neil Duffin says Regulatory Compliance “More Important than Ever”

ExxonMobil Development Company President Neil Duffin spoke at the Rice E&C forum this evening in Houston, Texas, focusing on managing today’s changing regulatory environment and choosing oilfield service companies who share Exxon’s commitment to regulatory compliance. Duffin noted that while the number of incidents of non-compliance have decreased, the number of high-consequence incidents were alarmingly […]

Entrance Mitigates Impact of Godaddy Outage for one client

Anti-hacking at Entrance When Anonymous took Godaddy’s servers down earlier today, millions of sites went down, including one of our clients’ user portals that gathers information from the field. By 2pm, however, our software consultants had created a work-around, and by 3pm users at one of our favorite clients were up and running again.

What is Business Intelligence, or BI?

Business intelligence, put simply, is any technology item that intelligently provides actionable information for business purposes.  The phrase encompasses a range of software platforms and solutions that allow business stakeholders and decision-makers to quickly see up-to-date data relevant to their operational roles. The “intelligence” in BI ranges from solution to solution, but the common, overarching […]

How do we effectively manage data during mergers and acquisitions?

When I received a notification that Robbins & Myers and National Oilwell Varco had announced a merger, it seemed like perfect timing to talk a bit about Mergers and Acquisitions from a data management perspective. “Mergers and Acquisitions are the lifeblood of growth” (Mike Gorsage for INC. Tech) but “companies that approach such an [IT] integration hastily […]

Why HTML5 is Magic

I talked up JavaScript a lot in my last blog entry, but the true hero in my time working with Windows 8 has been HTML5. JavaScript has been around for a while, even if it is somewhat improved for use with Windows 8, but HTML5 is relatively new. I’d never had any experience with HTML5 […]

The Information Lifecycle of a Well

Using Linear Data for Ad-Hoc Decision Making In E&P information about an asset is usually set up to flow directionally as that asset moves from being an identified prospect through to drilling and production. But while the development process is linear, information needs are not. For example, information gathered while drilling a well (mud logs, […]

Oh JavaScript, I’m sorry I doubted you.

In this series, Entrance’s Metro application intern gives his perspective on getting his feet wet with JavaScript + HTML5! It’s not hard to find programmers poking fun at JavaScript. It seems to have always been a language that was stuck on the web, and even there it had some stiff competition. My first acts of […]

Windows 8 Metro is, above all else, a design philosophy.

Metro is brand new. I have to hope that, in the final release of Metro and Windows 8, there will be an “Update” method for ListViews. I may be wrong, though, because it’s possible that ListViews aren’t meant to update immediately. Metro is, above all else, a design philosophy, and Microsoft might very well mean […]
